The Resurrection: Why It's the ultimate ontological Game Changer

We all carry labels we never requested, yet we wear them as if they were assigned at birth. For some, it is a clinical designation; for others, it is a whispered judgment that eventually becomes an internal monologue. In the source narrative, the speaker recounts being labeled a “mistake”—not merely a comment on the timing of his birth, but an existential weight that dictated his entire reality. This produces a profound “performance trap,” where life becomes an exhaustive effort to prove the world wrong. The Resurrection, however, functions as the ultimate Game Changer, offering a shift that is not merely religious, but a fundamental reconstruction of human identity.

1. A Remodel or a New Creation?

Trading Worldly Standards for "Kingdom Eyes"

Most modern self-help frameworks are centered on behavior modification—the idea that if you refine your habits, you refine your essence. But the logic of the Resurrection suggests that God isn’t looking for “good bones” in your character to build upon; he is motivated to make you entirely new. This is an ontological change, a shift in the very nature of your being. We often prefer a “remodel” because it allows us to keep the “old bones” of our identity while applying a fresh coat of religious paint. Total transformation, however, requires the death of the old nature to make room for a New Nature. As the caterpillar’s metamorphosis into a butterfly proves, you don’t upgrade your limited capacities; you swap them for a nature engineered for flight.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old have passed away, and behold, the new have come.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

2. Understanding the Stone’s True Purpose

A common theological misconception is that the stone was rolled away to provide Jesus an exit from the tomb. In reality, the Risen Savior did not require a physical door. The stone was moved specifically for the witnesses, shifting the perspective from the finality of death to the reality of life. This was a calculated “perspective shift” designed to roll away the internal barriers that block our view of the truth—stones like guilt or the weight of public opinion. Once the stone is moved, we are no longer viewing a tragedy, but witnessing the evidence of existential security. The empty tomb proves that the barriers we once thought were immovable are, in fact, subject to a higher authority.

3. The “Day Four” Revelation

A Remodel or a New Creation?

The story of Lazarus reveals the profound intentionality of the delay. Jesus did not arrive until Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days, bypassing the contemporary superstition that the soul lingered near the body for only three. By waiting for “Day Four,” Jesus ensured that the miracle was unmistakably divine, removing all credit from natural causes or lingering spirits. Even when he appears silent or “late” by our frantic timelines, he is working toward a revelation that proves his sovereignty over the impossible. In our own “Day Four” moments of pain, we must realize that the delay is not a denial, but the setting of a stage for a type of hope that can only be found when all human resources have been exhausted.

4. Trading Worldly Standards for “Kingdom Eyes”

Worldly standards provide divisions; the Resurrection provides a new lens. It demands a pivot in how we perceive the world, allowing us to stop judging others by worldly standards and start seeing them through Kingdom Eyes. While the world labels people based on their lowest moments, pedigree, economic status, or geography, living with Kingdom Eyes means seeing past the external data to recognize the soul beneath the struggle. Kingdom Eyes value image-bearers over pedigrees, and souls over past reputations.

5. Your Position as a Victor, Not a Victim

The Resurrection provides a positional identity that is independent of your daily practice. In this economy, you are a son or daughter of God, a status that is received by grace rather than earned through performance. This distinction between position and practice is the “Game Changer” for anyone paralyzed by shame. While we are not yet sinless in our practice, our position is secure and unchangeable. This allows us to move from fighting for an identity to fighting from an identity. You are not a victim of your past mistakes, but a victor over them.

Conclusion: No More Orphans

The Ultimate Game Changer: Resurrection and A New Identity

The empty grave is the final declaration that our old, broken identities can stay buried. Yet, many of us live with the habits of an orphan—constantly trying to secure our own worth—rather than the rights of a child who is already loved and provided for. Picking the “scab” of your pain and yesterday’s mistakes is the habit of an orphan obsessed with their own brokenness. It is time to exercise the radical act of will required to let it heal and finally walk in your new nature.

Bible Verse References (ESV)

Here are the verses referenced in the text and other supporting scriptures, followed by a short hint.

  • 2 Corinthians 5:17“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old have passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Hint: Confirming that the Resurrection provides a New Nature, not a spiritual remodel.
  • Matthew 28:2-6“And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it… ‘He is not here, for he has risen…'”
Hint: Supporting the truth that the stone was moved specifically for the witnesses, not for Christ’s exit.
  • John 11:38-44“Jesus… came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it… (Martha said), ‘Lord, by this time there will be a odor, for he has been dead four days.'”
Hint: The “Day Four” standard that ensured the miracle was unmistakably divine.
  • 2 Corinthians 5:16“From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer.”
Hint: The theological command to trade worldly standards for “Kingdom Eyes.”
  • Romans 6:4“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”
Hint: The fundamental, ontological change from being earth-bound to walking in newness of life.
