Word Habit

We believe that regular Bible reading is the most transformational spiritual practice in your life. As you read the Bible, you are creating space in your life for God to speak to you and change you. At Metropolitan, we are deeply committed to helping equip people to regularly engage with God’s Word and create their very own WORD HABIT.

All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. - 2 Timothy 3:16–17

What is Word Habit

Word Habit is a Bible reading plan that moves at a pace of reading 5 or 6 Bible chapters a week. It is best, whenever possible, to read a chapter a day. This plan will cover the entire New Testament in one year.

Word Habit Plus+

Word Habit Plus+ is a plan that takes you through the entire Old Testament every two years. This moves at a pace of 7 to 9 chapters every week and 1 or 2 Psalms. Word Habit Plus+ can be used on its own or read alongside Word Habit.

USING THE “SOAP” METHOD

We encourage you to think through the following questions and to record your thoughts in a daily journal.

Scripture

What verse jumped out at me? What verse spoke to me? What verse challenged me? What verse comforted me?

Observation

In your own words, what does this verse say? What’s the big idea that the verses are communicating? What is the “truth” that this verse contains?

Application

How should I respond to the verse that I just read? What is something I can do this week in obedience to these verses?

Prayer

What do I need to ask the Lord for in response to what I’ve read?
