The Power of Submission: Finding Strength in Surrender

Have you ever thought submission was outdated or even demeaning? Paula James flips that script in her Mother’s Day message, using the powerful words of James 4:7–8, 10 to show that submission to God isn’t about losing—it’s about gaining divine strength, protection, and purpose.

Why Submission to God Feels So Hard (and Why It’s Worth It)

What Submission Really Means
To submit to God is to position yourself under His loving authority and power—not as a victim, but as one who finds strength in surrender. As James says:
“Submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Submission Is the Door to Resistance
Once you’ve yielded to God, you’re no longer fighting alone. Satan can’t stand in the presence of someone aligned with God—because now he must contend with your Creator!

Reject Lukewarm Living
Paula James challenges “lukewarm Christianity” (Revelation 3:16)—a faith that’s enough to feel religious but not enough for true transformation. Submission demands wholehearted devotion.

Submission in Everyday Life

  • In Prayer: Prayer isn’t just asking—it’s talking to God, trusting Him with both small choices and life’s big decisions.
  • In Marriage & Family:
    • Husbands are called to lead with sacrificial love (Ephesians 5:23), mirroring Christ’s example.
    • Wives are invited to submit as an act of worship (Ephesians 5:21–24). This is about faith in God’s design.
    • Singles are encouraged to pursue the Lord wholeheartedly and trust His timing.
  • In Life’s Struggles: Real submission isn’t giving up—it’s surrendering control so God can lead your journey.

Why It Matters

  • Protection: Submission puts you under God’s covering so Satan must face God Himself—fearless security.
  • Unity: Humility leads to peace, reducing friction among believers.
  • Exaltation: Submit now with faith—God promises: “Humble yourselves… and He will lift you up.” (James 4:10)

Ready to Submit? Here’s How to Start:

  1. Pick one area—your prayer life, attitude, or a relationship—and ask God to lead you.
  2. Resist temptations that steer you from His path.
  3. Surround yourself with faith-filled community that encourages wholehearted surrender.

Would you try submission today? Share your thoughts or struggles in the comments—we’d love to hear from you!
